Job Description

  • This role involves analyzing financial data, reconciling accounts, and providing valuable insights to support informed decision-making within the organization.
  • The accountant would be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledgers, journals, fixed asset register and subsidiary accounts.
  • Record financial transactions and ensure proper documentation for all financial activities.
  • Ensuring payment vouchers are raised and duly signed.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare management accounts including statement of financial position, income statements, and cash flow statement.
  • Generate various financial reports for management, and other stakeholders.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the development of budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide analysis of variances.

Reconciliation:

  • Reconcile bank statements, accounts payable and accounts receivable balances, and other financial records.
  • Identify discrepancies and resolve issues in a timely manner.

Tax Accounting:

  • Taxation of payroll including preparation and filing of related tax returns
  • Transaction taxes including preparation and filing of related taxes.
  • Stay updated on tax regulations and ensure compliance with relevant laws.
  • Collaborate with the Tax consultants in addressing all tax related matters.

Auditing and Internal Controls:

  • Collaborate with the internal auditors in ensuring internal control procedures are not compromised.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of internal control procedures.
  • Assist in external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.

Financial Analysis:

  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.

Expense Management:

  • Review and process expense reports, ensuring adherence to company policies.
  • Monitor spending patterns and advise on cost-saving measures.

Compliance and Regulations:

  • Stay current with accounting standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Ensure accurate and timely compliance with financial reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with the external auditors during statutory audits

Qualifications and Requirements

  • BSc / HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; ICAN or similar certification is a plus.
  • Proven experience as an accountant, preferably in a corporate setting is a strong advantage.
  • Proficiency in accounting softwareSAGE and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and taxation.
  • Analytical mindset and attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Years of relevant work experience is an additional advantage.
  • Possess excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Strong experience within professional scales and possess the ability to prospect and manage senior level relationships.
  • Good display of soft skill mastery is an added advantage.
  • Candidate must be residing in Lagos State.
  • May require occasional overtime or flexibility in working hours to accommodate special projects or deadlines.
  • May require occasional overtime during peak financial periods or during audits.
