Job Summary

  • A System/Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of an organization's IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and associated hardware and software components.
  • The preferred candidate would collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, deploy, and maintain IT systems that align with business objectives

Key Responsibilities:

Network Infrastructure Management:

  • Design, configure, and maintain network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Monitor network performance, identify and resolve issues, and optimize network resources.
  • Implement security measures to protect the network against cyber threats.

Server Administration:

  • Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and operating systems e.g., Windows Server, Linux.
  • Manage server virtualization technologies e.g., VMware, Hyper-V.
  • Ensure server availability, scalability, and performance.

System Deployment and Maintenance:

  • Install, upgrade, and patch software and applications across the organization.
  • Create and manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
  • Perform routine system backups and disaster recovery planning.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and enforce security best practices, including access control and intrusion detection.
  • Conduct security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations e.g., GDPR, HIPAA.

Troubleshooting and Support:

  • Provide technical support to end-users, resolving hardware and software issues.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity, performance, and security problems.
  • Document and maintain comprehensive system/network documentation.

Infrastructure Planning and Design:

  • Collaborate with IT teams to assess technology needs and plan for future growth.
  • Design and implement scalable, high-availability solutions.
  • Recommend hardware and software upgrades and improvements.

Monitoring and Performance Optimization:

  • Set up monitoring tools to proactively identify and address issues.
  • Optimize system and network performance for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including IT, development, and security teams.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant certifications e.g., Cisco CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+, Microsoft MCSA/MCSE.
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols, hardware, and security best practices.
  • Proficiency in server operating systems Windows Server, Linux and virtualization technologies.
  • Experience with cloud services e.g., AWS, Azure is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, OSI model, VLANs, MPLS, routing protocols e.g., OSPF, BGP, and network security concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with network equipment from vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Fortigate, Mikrotik Palo Alto Networks, and Huawei.
  • Proficiency in network monitoring and management tools, such as Wireshark, Nagios, SolarWinds, or similar.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues efficiently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Relevant industry certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate CCNA, Cisco Certified Network Professional CCNP, or Certified Information Systems Security Professional CISSP are preferred.
