VisionSpring is on a mission to make affordable eyewear accessible to all. The ability to see clearly opens doors to better learning, work opportunities, safety, civic engagement, and overall quality of life. As a social enterprise, our primary drive is creating social impact. Our sales and revenue targets are a means to achieve our ultimate goal: enhancing the functionality, productivity, and income potential of low-income individuals by providing them with eyeglasses to correct refractive errors and presbyopia. We are dedicated to transforming the dysfunctional optical market that has neglected to provide eyeglasses—a technology that has been around for 700 years—to 2.7 billion individuals in need of vision correction, many of whom live on less than $4 per day. We view low-income consumers as customers rather than beneficiaries. They expect high-quality, affordable products and are willing to invest their limited discretionary income in the immediate benefits of vision correction. By selling eyeglasses, we generate new demand and cultivate a sustainable market. Our approach allows us to reach four times as many people for every dollar spent compared to donating recycled eyewear. To expand efficiently, we must continually reduce costs with each new unit delivered. Our business is guided by both sales metrics and social impact indicators. We leverage various organizational structures and methods to accomplish our goals. We prioritize expanding our impact, not our organization size. VisionSpring operates with a small, efficient team of proactive individuals.

JOB SUMMARY

  • Degree in Optometry from a recognized university
  • Minimum 5 years of optometry experience, including expertise in refraction, retinoscopy, slit lamp examination, and contact lens fitting
  • At least 3 years of progressive program management experience
  • Technical support and coaching experience with partners or team members
  • Background in public health and involvement in impactful policy/solution initiatives
  • Ability to influence people positively without direct line management
  • Strong commitment to collaboration with diverse, multilingual team members
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, with willingness to travel internationally up to 30% of the time

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Global Senior Optometrist collaborates with country quality and customer experience leads, Vision Access Program team members, and the Global Senior Lead for Program Experience and Quality. Reporting to the Global Vice President of Programs in Accra, Ghana, the Global Senior Optometrist aligns best practices with evidence from the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning unit. This role is integral to VisionSpring's Global Program Office.
