JOB SUMMARY
Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in the retail industry. Must be ICAN-certified Must have experience in the retail industrySkills: Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards. Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems. RESPONSIBILITIES
The Accountant is responsible for managing financial transactions, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of retail operations and financial practices, along with the ability to analyze financial data and provide strategic insights.Key DutiesFinancial Reporting: Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.General Ledger Management: Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records. Post journal entries and perform month-end and year-end closing processes. Conduct regular reconciliations of bank accounts and other financial accounts.Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development and monitoring of budgets. Prepare financial forecasts and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making. Provide insights and recommendations to improve financial performance.Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments. Monitor and follow up on outstanding receivables to ensure timely collection. Maintain vendor and customer records and resolve any discrepancies.Inventory Management: Oversee inventory accounting and ensure accurate recording of inventory transactions. Conduct periodic physical inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies. Analyze inventory levels and provide insights on stock management.Tax Compliance: Prepare and file tax returns, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations. Assist with tax planning and strategy to minimize tax liabilities. Liaise with external auditors and tax advisors as needed.Internal Controls: Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets. Identify areas for improvement in financial processes and recommend corrective actions. Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.Financial Analysis: Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support business decisions. Assist in the evaluation of financial performance and the development of strategic plans.
