JOB SUMMARY
RequirementsTo succeed in this role, we think you should have:Bachelor of Laws from an accredited institutionQualifying Certificate from the Nigerian Law SchoolTwo (2) to four (4) years proven experience as a legal counsel, with at least two (2) years in the Fintech or Financial Services SectorExperience in drafting/negotiating commercial and technology agreementsAbility to interpret regulationsAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentAbility to work with little or no supervisionExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsExcellent multi-tasking and time management skillsAbility to cope with high levels of responsibility and with confidential mattersGood understanding of the Fintech space and applicable laws/regulationsStrong research skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Legal Counsel, you would:Initiate and pursue legal proceedings on behalf of Moniepoint with the assistance of external counselOversee the defense of legal proceedings on behalf of Moniepoint with the assistance of external counselDraft and/or review legal letters, agreements and monitor legal obligations under agreements to ensure compliance, on and as whenrequestedAdvise on potential litigation matters (civil & criminal) that should be directed to external counselLiaise with and assist external counsel with regard to their obligations to the company and maintaining an updated litigation schedule of the CompanyLiaise with law enforcement bodies and/or regulatory authoritiesAdvise on statutory compliancesResearch and prepare legal opinions on various civil matters including claims for compensation against the companyDraft, amend, review and/or recommend modifications of related laws and regulations governing MoniepointAssist in the formulation, implementation and/or amendment of internal policiesProvide sound and timely legal advice & opinions to the company and make recommendations to the Management of TeamApt as necessaryAttend meetings and offer advice as required while taking notesPrepare minutes of meetings attendedLiaise and maintain correspondence with the Company Secretary in ensuring timely statutory filingsSupport the Head of Legal with any other duties as assigned
