An Accountant is responsible for managing financial records, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing accurate financial information to support the strategic decision-making of the organization. They oversee various accounting processes, such as bookkeeping, preparing financial statements, tax filing, budgeting, and financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
-Financial Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of financial transactions by ensuring proper classification and documentation.
Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
-Preparation of Financial Statements:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Ensure all financial statements comply with accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).
-Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in preparing budgets and financial forecasts to guide the organization's financial planning.
Monitor expenditures and compare them with budgets to identify variances and recommend adjustments.
-Tax Compliance:
Prepare and submit tax returns, ensuring adherence to local tax laws and regulations.
Stay updated on tax legislation to optimize the organization’s tax position.
Liaise with tax authorities for audits and inquiries when necessary.
-Accounts Payable and Receivable:
Oversee and manage accounts payable and receivable functions.
Ensure timely billing, collection of revenue, and payment of suppliers.
Conduct credit analysis and assess risks associated with clients and vendors.
-Internal Controls:
Implement and maintain internal controls to prevent inaccuracies in financial reporting.
Review and recommend changes to financial procedures to enhance efficiency and security.
-Financial Analysis:
Analyze financial data to identify trends and provide insights into financial performance.
Support management in strategic decision-making with financial forecasts and reports.
-Auditing:
Coordinate with external and internal auditors to facilitate periodic financial audits.
Address and implement any recommendations made by auditors.
-Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with financial laws and company policies.
Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies and government bodies.
-Team Collaboration:
Work closely with other departments to provide financial insights.
Assist in training and mentoring junior accounting staff, if applicable.
Qualifications:
-Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A master’s degree is an added advantage.
-Certification: Chartered Accountant (e.g., ICAN, ACCA, CPA) certification is often required.
-Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting or a related field.
Skills:
-Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, SAP).
-Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
-Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
-Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
