Job Title: Materials Handling Equipment Technician
Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and proactive Materials Handling Equipment Technician to perform essential maintenance, repair, and diagnostic tasks on forklifts and related equipment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of all materials handling equipment, minimizing downtime, and adhering to safety standards in all activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Perform regular preventive and corrective maintenance on forklifts and other materials handling equipment to ensure peak operational performance.
Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and troubleshoot faults in forklifts and related equipment, restoring them to full functionality in a timely manner.
Battery Management: Oversee the daily cleaning, charging, and deployment of electric forklift traction batteries, including routine maintenance and ensuring optimal battery performance.
Inspection & Safety Compliance: Conduct thorough safety inspections of forklifts post-repair and maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety standards before returning them to operations.
Data Recording & Reporting: Accurately document battery charging cycles, usage data, and maintenance activities. Provide detailed reports on preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance to ensure ongoing equipment health.
Equipment Handling & Care: Handle all forklift components safely during maintenance to prevent damage and avoid future equipment failures.
Workplace Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including the workshop, battery bay, and office, ensuring a safe and efficient work setting at all times.
Safety Adherence: Follow and enforce all safety protocols in line with company and industry standards while performing daily tasks.
Requirements:
Educational Qualifications: HND or OND in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related Engineering discipline, or a Technical School Certificate in the relevant field.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in the materials handling equipment industry, preferably with a focus on technical roles.
Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of battery-powered materials handling equipment, including routine maintenance, repairs, and diagnostic procedures.
Skills & Knowledge: Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, with experience in both predictive and corrective maintenance practices.
Troubleshooting: Proven ability to diagnose equipment failures and perform major and minor parts replacements as required.
Safety Focus: Thorough understanding and commitment to workplace safety standards, ensuring all tasks are executed in a secure environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience with forklift fleet management or similar material handling equipment.
In-depth knowledge of battery charging systems and maintenance.
