We are seeking a dedicated Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Specialist to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations within our manufacturing environment at Ascentech Service Limited.

Job Summary

This role is responsible for enforcing occupational health and safety regulations, inspecting facilities to identify existing or potential hazards, maintaining HSSE performance reports, conducting internal incident investigations, and liaising with regulatory agencies.

About the Job

As an HSE Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Enforcing compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and standards.
  • Inspecting facilities to identify existing or potential health and safety hazards, and recommending corrective or preventive measures.
  • Maintaining HSSE performance reports, including records and statistics.
  • Conducting internal incident investigations to determine causes and generate HSE reports and statistics.
  • Representing the company on safety, health, and environmental matters within the terminal.
  • Liaising with relevant HSE regulatory and certification agencies.
  • Planning and coordinating HSSE training activities, including orientation and induction training for new employees.
  • Monitoring the safety performance of contractors to ensure adherence to company standards.
  • Ensuring the availability of adequate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Organizing and scheduling safety drills and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Supervising security operatives to ensure effective surveillance and prevention of accidents, crime incidents, and property loss.
  • Maintaining effective access control and identification procedures for staff, visitors, and contractors.
  • Safeguarding the physical and material assets of the company and third parties on-site.
  • Controlling environmental impacts through pollution prevention and proper waste management, employing best available techniques (BAT).
  • Assisting in implementing project-specific environmental management plans.
  • Monitoring and reporting on environmental risks associated with company activities.
  • Providing training and information to enhance awareness of environmental issues and management practices.
  • Reporting on environmental performance indicators, including monthly audits, incident rates, training achievements, and objectives.
  • Promoting environmental protection initiatives, such as spill prevention and remediation.
  • Ensuring good housekeeping practices within the mill and premises.
  • Monitoring waste generation and ensuring regular disposal by the relevant agent.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or HND in a safety-related field or a science discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of HSSE experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Membership in a recognized professional body (e.g., IOSH, NISP) is preferred.
  • Certifications in Safety/Risk Management are an added advantage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledgeable in HSE global best practices and implementation.
  • Strong resilience and environmental awareness.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate others.
  • Vigilant and observant with prompt incident reporting and response capabilities.
  • Creative problem-solver with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong team player and active listener.
