Head of Logistics (General Manager)

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a senior logistics professional to work for a leading international shipping and logistics company, supporting their expansion and building a new logistics business unit in Nigeria.

As the Head of Logistics, you will be crucial in establishing and growing a new business segment that provides door-to-door logistics solutions. The Company intends to grow this business segment aggressively by leveraging its extensive global shipping and multi-modal transport network, a broad spectrum of warehouse capabilities, deep agency experience, and strong customer service standards.

 Job Scope

  • Lead the setup of new logistics entities in the local country, with the ability to source reliable warehouses and trucking needs, including trucks and drivers, through a strong network of relevant contacts.
  • Develop new & existing intermodal service products for key account customers, coordinating and executing service excellence.
  • Establish and grow the sales funnel with high customer conversion.
  • Understand customer's requirements and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Model end-to-end cost and profit margins to optimise earnings
  • Provide a differentiated service and solutions and increase customer loyalty and retention.
  • Tender and win long-term contracts

 Knowledge, skills and attitude

  • Proven experience in leading a company or a sales/operations department within the logistics sector.
  • Broad network of contacts with potential customers, local authorities, vendors and service providers
  • Track record in sales, winning new business, and building strong client relationships
  • Extensive knowledge of the Nigerian logistics market
  • Experience working in leading logistics companies
  • Previous experience running your own business or working in a start-up environment is advantageous but not required
