Role Description

This is a remote volunteer role for a Backend / DevOps Engineer ) at AfriTech Digital Hub. The Backend / DevOps Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining backend services, implementing infrastructure as code (IaC), setting up and managing continuous integration pipelines, and performing system administration tasks. The role also includes collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and effective software development practices.

What You'll Do

  • Use

    to develop and maintain server-side logic and REST APIs.
  • Design and manage database schemas (e.g., PostgreSQL or MongoDB) for storing user data, course content, and progress/scoring.
  • Implement systems to handle user authentication and data security.
  • Assist with deploying and managing our application on cloud infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Software Development and
  • Familiarity with either SQL (like PostgreSQL) or NoSQL (like MongoDB) databases.
  • Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (like AWS, Azure, etc.) and CI/CD principles is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as code (IaC) practices
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration and related tools
  • System Administration and Linux experience
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and remotely in a volunteer capacity
  • Experience in the education sector is a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field is beneficial
