Job Summary

To promote and maintain a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace by implementing, monitoring, and enforcing company and statutory HSE policies. The HSE Safety Supervisor ensures compliance with safety standards, conducts inspections, trains staff, and drives continuous improvement in safety performance.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

Site Inspections & Risk Management:

  • Conduct routine site inspections, identify potential hazards, and implement corrective actions.
  • Carry out risk assessments and job hazard analyses for all operational activities.
  • Monitor compliance with HSE plans and ensure control measures are effectively implemented.

Compliance & Standards:

  • Ensure compliance with Nigeria's HSE laws, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Promote adherence to ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 standards in all operations.
  • Enforce company rules on personal conduct, PPE use, and safe work procedures.

Incident Reporting & Investigation;

  • Promptly report all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions to management and clients.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and develop preventive and corrective action plans.
  • Ensure lessons learned are shared across project teams for future prevention.

Training & Toolbox Talks:

  • Organize and deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks, and refresher training sessions for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and awareness through consistent communication and engagement.

Emergency Response & Drills:

  • Develop, review, and coordinate emergency response protocols for incidents such as fires, spills, or accidents.
  • Plan and facilitate periodic emergency drills to ensure readiness and compliance.

PPE & Equipment Oversight:

  • Monitor and enforce the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct Material Handling Equipment (MHE) inspections (e.g., forklifts) and verify completion of daily pre-use checklists.

Environmental Stewardship:

  • Oversee waste management, spill prevention, and housekeeping to minimise environmental impact.
  • Promote best practices in environmental protection and sustainable site operations.

Requirements:

  • OND/HND/Bachelor's Degree (B.Sc.) in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in HSE supervision within the construction industry.
  • Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, ISPON, IOSH, or equivalent are required.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards is an added advantage.
