The Community Pharmacist plays a key role in ensuring safe, effective, and responsible dispensing of medicines and providing professional healthcare advice to customers. The pharmacist oversees daily operations in the pharmacy, manages inventory and regulatory compliance, and ensures that all prescriptions are accurately dispensed.

Responsibilities:

• Accurately dispense prescription medicines in accordance with legal, ethical, and company requirements.
• Counsel patients on correct medication use, possible side effects, storage, and interactions.
• Review prescriptions to detect therapeutic incompatibilities, dosing errors, or duplication.
• Handle controlled drugs and maintain appropriate documentation in line with Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) regulations.
• Promote rational drug use and ensure patients receive the right medication for their condition.
• Provide first-line advice on minor ailments, over-the-counter (OTC) medications, and self-care options.
• Supervise pharmacy assistants, technicians, and interns in daily pharmacy operations.
• Maintain proper storage conditions, temperature monitoring, and expiry tracking for all drugs.
• Ensure proper labeling and shelving of medicines for easy retrieval and safety.
• Participate in inventory control—manage reorders, avoid stockouts, and minimize expiries.
• Reconcile physical stock with system records periodically.
• Support branch sales performance through excellent service and cross-selling of appropriate healthcare products.

Regulatory & Compliance

• Ensure full compliance with PCN, NAFDAC, and other regulatory requirements.
• Maintain and update all licenses, permits, and regulatory documentation for the pharmacy.
• Keep accurate controlled drug registers and submit reports as required.
• Ensure the pharmacy environment meets health and safety standards.

Customer Relations & Public Health

• Build strong relationships with customers and the surrounding community.
• Provide vaccination, blood pressure, or health check services where applicable.
• Conduct medication reviews and promote adherence programs.
• Educate the public on lifestyle modifications and preventive health.

Reporting & Administration

• Generate daily and monthly reports on drug sales, inventory status, and revenue.
• Support the branch manager in budgeting and cost control.
• Participate in staff training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) from an accredited institution.
• Current license with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN).
• Minimum of 3 years' experience as a community pharmacist (preferably in a retail setting).
• Strong knowledge of drugs, interactions, and therapeutic uses.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and customer service skills
• Proficiency in pharmacy management software (e.g., SmartPharma, PharmIT, or similar).
• Integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail are essential.
