Reports to: Head Chef / Sous Chef / Kitchen Manager

Job Summary:

The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food to a high standard while ensuring that kitchen operations run smoothly. This role involves managing multiple tasks, including ingredient preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring food safety standards are met.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation and Cooking:

Prepare ingredients by washing, chopping, slicing, and marinating according to recipe instructions.

Cook food according to standardized recipes, ensuring consistency and quality.

Adjust cooking techniques as necessary to meet dietary needs (e.g., gluten-free, vegetarian, etc.).

Ensure food is cooked at the right temperature and according to safety guidelines.

Kitchen Organization and Cleanliness:

Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, including workstations, equipment, and storage areas.

Follow all sanitation and food safety procedures, such as proper food handling, storage, and waste management.

Assist with inventory management, including the ordering of food and kitchen supplies.

Menu and Recipe Adherence:

Ensure dishes are prepared and presented according to menu specifications.

Assist in menu planning and suggest new recipes or food items.

Communicate effectively with other kitchen staff and waitstaff to ensure efficient service.

Quality Control:

Monitor the freshness and quality of food products, ensuring they meet standards.

Inspect food for taste, appearance, and temperature before serving.

Make necessary adjustments to cooking methods or seasonings based on guest feedback or kitchen requirements.

Team Collaboration:

Work closely with other kitchen staff (e.g., chefs, dishwashers, and servers) to ensure timely preparation and delivery of food.

Assist with training junior kitchen staff and new employees.

Maintain a positive and professional work environment, especially during busy periods.

Health and Safety Compliance:

Adhere to all health and safety regulations and guidelines.

Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.

Follow procedures for food storage, handling, and preparation to avoid contamination.

Other Duties as Assigned:

Perform additional tasks as needed, such as assisting in catering events or special orders.

Help with special dietary requirements or custom menu requests.

Take part in stock rotation and keeping track of food expiry dates.

Skills & Qualifications:

Culinary Skills: Knowledge of cooking techniques, food preparation methods, and presentation.

Food Safety: Understanding of food handling, safety standards, and sanitation practices.

Teamwork: Ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively with other kitchen staff.

Attention to Detail: Ability to follow recipes and ensure food is prepared to a high standard.

Time Management: Ability to work efficiently under pressure, especially during busy periods.

Flexibility: Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Culinary training or relevant certifications preferred.

Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen environment, especially in a similar position, is advantageous.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.

Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with high heat and loud noise.
