Head, Coal Power Plants

Dangote Cement Plc 1. MAIN JOB PURPOSETo provide group-wide leadership, strategic direction, technical governance, performance optimization, and operational oversight for all coal-based captive power plants in the company's African operations.

The role ensures reliable, safe, compliant, and cost-efficient power generation that supports cement production across all plants, while driving standardization, technology upgrades, talent development, and energy cost reduction across the plants.

• KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Group Coal Power Plant Operational Leadership (All CPPs)
• Provide strategic leadership for the operations of all coal-based CPPs across the group.

ii. Set uniform operational standards, policies, SOPs, and KPIs for all coal power plants.

iii. Ensure group-wide 24/7 power reliability for clinker lines, grinding plants, utilities, and mines.

iv. Define and enforce standard procedures for start-up, shutdown, emergencies, and load transitions.

• Drive uniform application of leading practices across all coal power plants ________________________________________
• Performance Optimization & Technical Efficiency
• Analyze performance across all CPP boilers, turbines, generators, Coal Handling Plants, Demineralization plants, etc.
• Set and enforce heat rate targets, coal consumption benchmarks, and auxiliary power limits.
• Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for repetitive faults across different plants.
• Drive group-wide coal power plant performance improvement programs.
• Build centralized dashboards in respect of PLF, availability, outages, emissions.

• Maintenance Governance & Reliability
• Establish coal power plant maintenance standards.
• Plan and execute major shutdowns and budgets for each plant.
• Ensure major equipment health monitoring (Turbines, Boilers, Generators, Coal mills etc.)
• Safety, Regulatory Compliance & Environment
• Ensure zero-fatality, zero-LTI operations across all power plants.
• Enforce uniform application of safety procedure across plants
• Ensure all plants meet emission standards for PM, SO₂, NOx, CO.
• Set guidelines for ash handling, effluent, and waste discharge standards.

• Financial Oversight, OPEX & CAPEX Management
• Prepare and control the group-wide coal plant power generation OPEX budget.
• Standardize cost structure across all plants (coal, chemicals, spares, consumables).
• Benchmark all coal power plant plants against industry standards.
• Drive reduction in cost per kWh, coal consumption (kg/kWh) and maintenance cost per MW etc.
• People Leadership & Competency Development
• Lead technical manpower resourcing to take-over and localize coal power plant operations and maintenance.
• Lead assessment of technical capability gaps for intervention across all plants.
• Help develop and execute training curricula to support local skill development of boiler and turbine engineers, coal handling plant technicians and other coal power plant specialists.
• EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education

• B.Eng. / B.Tech. in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Power Engineering
• Preferably an M.Eng. or MBA
• OEM certifications (Turbine/Boiler/Coal Mills/ESP) are strong advantages

Experience

• 20+ years in power generation
• Minimum 10 years directly managing coal-fired CPP or utility power plants
• At least 5 years in multi-plant or regional leadership
• Strong experience in: CFBC/PF boilers, Steam turbines, Coal milling systems, DCS (ABB/Siemens), High-voltage electrical systems, Emission control systems
