Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically grounded Elevator Technician Intern to join our installation and commissioning team. This structured internship offers recent graduates with an engineering background (Electrical or Mechanical) hands-on training and exposure to the assembly, installation, testing, and compliance procedures for elevators, escalators, and lifts. The intern will directly support senior technicians, translating theoretical engineering knowledge into practical, field-based applications.
Key Responsibilities (Internship Focus)
The intern will primarily assist, observe, and document the core functions of elevator installation and commissioning, including:
Pre-Installation Support:
- Assist senior technicians in conducting site surveys and verifying that all required materials, tools, and equipment are available.
- Learn to interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical drawings to understand installation procedures.
Installation and Assembly Assistance:
- Assist in the physical installation of guide rails, hoist motors, pulleys, and braking systems.
- Observe and help with the assembly, securement, and alignment of the elevator cab components, counterweights, and doors within specified tolerances.
Electrical and Control Systems:
- Learn the process of connecting and testing electrical wiring and circuit systems, including control panels and safety devices.
- Support the accurate measurement and adjustment of electrical and mechanical components.
Testing and Commissioning Support:
- Document and observe the performance of load, stress, and safety tests on braking mechanisms and emergency stop functions.
- Assist in the systematic troubleshooting and correction of minor operational defects to ensure compliance with industry standards.
Safety and Compliance:
- Strictly adhere to and follow OSHA, ISO, and local safety codes during all phases of work, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Support the documentation of safety checks and procedures.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain and update accurate installation records, site reports, and service logs under the supervision of senior staff.
- Promptly report observed defects, modifications, or safety concerns to the technical team.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: Must be a recent graduate with a Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Or a closely related technical field.
Technical Foundation: Basic theoretical understanding of electrical circuits, control panels, mechanical assemblies, and the ability to interpret technical drawings.
Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and diagnostic abilities; high attention to detail required for precise installation work.
Attributes: Highly motivated, physically capable of working in field environments (e.g., shafts, machine rooms), and committed to strict safety standards.
