Company Overview: Our Client is an economic entity tasked with the manufacturing, sales and servicing of both heavy and light-duty vehicles towards bridging identified needs in the marketplace within Nigeria and Africa.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Commercials for our Automotive Division to oversee the product and service life cycles within the Group. This role entails leading the sales, marketing, and customer engagement teams to drive company growth by enhancing revenues and profitability.
The ideal candidate will possess strong sales acumen, leadership skills, and extensive knowledge of the automotive industry, specifically in commercial vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales and Marketing
- Lead the Sales and Product Marketing function, taking overall accountability for the performance of the sales and product marketing function by meeting and exceeding agreed key performance indicators.
- Oversee the development of short-, medium- and long-term targeted sales and marketing strategies.
- In conjunction with the Marketing team, plan and implement promotional campaigns in the right ways for identifiable market segments, measuring and reporting on return on investment.
- Monitor competitors' activities, including potential mergers and acquisitions, developing plans to ensure the risks to the business coming from these are minimised.
- Continually monitor the effectiveness of sales, marketing, dealer channels, aftersales and workshop strategy and delivery, reviewing and updating plans on a regular basis in line with likely changes to the dynamic of our markets.
- Participate in industry events, trade shows, and exhibitions to showcase the company's commercial offerings.
- Enhance the company's brand presence in the Automotive market.
Products and Services Management
- Manage the team of product sales and after-sales services, taking overall accountability for the performance of these functions by meeting and exceeding agreed key performance indicators.
- Support the team of product sales and after-sales services to conceive, develop, deliver and champion existing and new products and services developed across the Group.
- With the product sales and after-sales services managers, create and deliver short, mid and long-term products and services strategy, considering the importance of the life-cycle of 'legacy' products, as well as the need to expand into new areas.
- In collaboration with the leadership of product sales and after-sales services, and the Executive Management, undertake an annual review of gross margins and profitability of products and services, making decisions to discontinue those services that may no longer be relevant/required/profitable.
Market Trend Analysis and Forecast
- Conduct market research and analysis to create detailed business plans.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, laws, and regulations, to remain competitive in the market and effectively navigate business challenges.
- Forecast revenue goals and expenses for the commercial unit.
- Forecast realistic monthly goals and objectives for individual units and provide them with the support to meet these goals.
Production Efficiency:
- Provide administrative support to the overall Plan and operation of the production line to meet vehicle assembly goals.
- Support the assembly manager to address any production issues or bottlenecks promptly to minimize downtime.
- Ensure proper resource allocation, such as personnel, equipment and materials.
- Identify and address operational inefficiencies, such as frequent downtimes, inefficient workflows or quality control issues.
Budgeting and Communication
- Lead the Commercial Unit's annual budget process, working closely with the Finance Team to ensure the Commercial Unit maximizes the potential growth of the existing businesses as well as new partnerships.
- Consider cost reduction as and when appropriate, according to the external environment/potential effect of changes to the market.
- Work with the leadership of Sales and Marketing, and the Finance Team to review product and service pricing annually, to ensure an appropriate gross margin, by providing information about market trends, economic factors and competitor pricing.
- Ensure the Commercial unit maintains an excellent working relationship with the other units across the Group, looking for opportunities to maximize cross-working and avoiding any potential duplication.
- Responsible for ensuring all commercial PR, advocacy, communications and ensuing partnerships are consistent with the Company's ethical and professional brand value
Leadership, Commercial Strategy and Planning
- Hire, train, motivate, counsel and monitor the performance of all commercial teams, ensuring that a high level of customer satisfaction is achieved and maintained.
- Through effective line management and support of the product sales and after-sales services, ensure that new product/service development is on specification, time and budget; identify opportunities and risks to inform the strategy for creating and reforming product and service developments.
- Ensure the Company has an effective team and leadership structure across Sales & Marketing and Product & Services functions.
- Produce internal reporting of monthly sales and marketing performance.
- Prepare and deliver reports to the executive management and contribute to the board's decision-making.
- Provide proper product and training resources for the commercial team on a regular and continuous basis
- Direct the activities of all commercial units, ensuring proper staffing, discipline, and management.
- Develop and manage a CRM platform to retain customers and seek out new prospective sales.
- Oversee the function of the overall function of the import and clearing unit.
Client and Supplier Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain profitable relationships with key clients, fleet operators, and industry stakeholders.
· Manage and solve conflicts with clients and suppliers promptly.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities and partnerships.
- Develop a network of contacts, attend external influencing events, and become active within our major trade associations and representative bodies.
- Negotiate and close commercial contracts with suppliers and clients.
Revenue Generation
- Make data-informed decisions to drive performance and resource allocation
- Set sales quotas and goals
- Plan and Implement strategic sales channels
- Ensure improved revenue generation through various channels.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in business administration, Marketing, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
· Minimum of 15 years of experience in sales, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the automotive industry, preferably in commercial vehicles.
· Proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving market growth.
· Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
· Proficiency in sales management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
· In-depth knowledge of the commercial vehicle market and industry trends.
