Our client, an organization powering Africa's forward movement by building the future of mobility across the continent and in emerging markets, is hiring a
Product Lead
to build and scale a profitable Buy-Now-Pay-Later (BNPL) / credit product, starting in Nigeria and expanding across other African markets. As the product lead, you'll function both as an operator and a builder that is comfortable in customer interviews, in a PRD, analyzing credit performance, or negotiating with major commercial partners. Your Responsibilities...
Product Strategy & Ownership

  • You will own the end-to-end product vision for 3-month cycle BNPL (home goods, and productive assets).
  • You will translate business goals (portfolio performance, margin, volume) into a coherent product strategy and roadmap.
  • You will define clear problem statements, user journeys, and requirements for both customers and partners.

Risk, Credit & Portfolio Performance

  • You will work with Risk, Data, and Collections to design simple, robust credit assessment frameworks that optimize conversion while hitting loss targets.
  • You will embed risk controls into product flows (KYC, transaction limits, eligibility logic, behavioral triggers).
  • You will continuously monitor cohorts, roll rates, and vintage curves; take quick product action when performance drifts.

Partnerships & Go-to-Market

  • You will identify, prioritize, and structure innovative partnerships (retailers, telcos, OEMs, marketplaces, agents) that can distribute the product at scale.
  • You will co-design partner journeys: merchant onboarding, integrations (APIs, POS, web), incentives, and training.
  • You will collaborate with Sales / Growth to design partner incentives, pricing, and promotions that align with portfolio goals.

Experimentation & Data-Driven Decisions

  • You will run A/B tests and structured experiments on eligibility, pricing, down payment, tenors, and incentives.
  • You will use data to make objective trade-offs between growth and risk; constantly refine the product to improve LTV:CAC, portfolio yield, and NPS.
  • You will build and maintain product dashboards in collaboration with Dataâno major product call without numbers.

Customer Experience & Operations

  • You will design intuitive customer journeys across channels (USSD, app, web, in-store), reducing friction and drop-offs.
  • You will work closely with Ops, CX, and Collections to ensure fast onboarding, clear communication, and humane collections.
  • You will translate customer feedback into product improvements that increase adoption and repayment rates.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership
  • You will align Engineering, Risk, Collections, Legal/Compliance, Finance, and Operations around one clear plan.
  • You will write sharp, structured PRDs / specs, and drive them from discovery â delivery â iteration.
  • You will lead reviews and rituals (weekly performance reviews, roadmap reviews, post-mortems) to keep

  • Designing products with a 3-month payback cycle.

To Be Considered for This Role, You Should Have...

  • 4â8 years of experience in Product Management within; BNPL / consumer lending, Microfinance / digital banking, Asset finance, telco finance, or high-volume credit/payments.
  • Deep understanding of underwriting, credit assessment, and portfolio metrics.
  • Experience designing or managing short-tenor lending products.
  • Demonstrated ownership of P&L drivers (pricing, conversion, losses, economics).
  • Strong product discovery and delivery skills.
  • Comfortable working with data and designing dashboards with analysts.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills across partners and internal teams.
  • Hands-on, resourceful, and comfortable with startup-level ambiguity.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Interest in mobility, financial inclusion, and emerging markets.
