JOB DESCRIPTION: CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER (CFO)

Role Overview

The Chief Financial Officer will serve as the financial steward of a fast-growing digital credit and financial services organisation. The role requires a strategic leader who can build strong financial systems, drive profitability, manage risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and guide the business toward sustainable and scalable growth. The CFO will work closely with the CEO and executive team to shape financial strategy, capital structure, and enterprise-wide performance.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Strategy & Leadership

• Develop and execute the organisation's long-term financial strategy aligned with growth and profitability targets.

• Lead financial planning, forecasting, modelling, budgeting, and scenario analysis.

• Advise the executive team and Board on financial risks, opportunities, and capital allocation.

1. Financial Management & Reporting

• Oversee preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

• Ensure compliance with IFRS, local regulatory requirements, and internal controls.

• Build a robust financial reporting framework that enhances transparency and executive decision-making.

1. Treasury & Cashflow Management

• Manage liquidity, cashflow planning, capital requirements, and working capital.

• Oversee all banking relationships and optimise treasury operations.

• Ensure efficient deployment of funds to support operational and lending activities.

1. Credit Risk & Portfolio Performance

• Partner closely with credit operations and risk teams to analyse portfolio performance.

• Implement risk-based pricing models, credit loss forecasting, and capital adequacy planning.

• Strengthen collections strategy, loan-book optimisation, and delinquency controls.

1. Compliance, Governance & Audit

• Maintain strong governance standards through internal controls, audit readiness, and compliance monitoring.

• Interface with regulators, auditors, tax authorities, and third-party partners.

• Ensure end-to-end financial discipline and adherence to industry regulations.

1. Capital Raising & Investor Relations

• Lead fundraising efforts including debt financing, structured credit, and equity engagements.

• Manage investor reporting, lender relationships, and covenant compliance.

• Evaluate and structure new financial instruments to support rapid scaling.

1. Operational Excellence & Technology Enablement

• Oversee automation of financial processes, dashboards, and reporting systems.

• Champion digital financial tools and data-driven decision-making across the business.

• Build and lead a high-performing finance team.

Requirements

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline.

• Professional certification required (ICAN, ACCA, CPA, CFA).

• Minimum 10–15 years progressive experience in finance leadership roles.

• Experience in digital lending, fintech, banking, consumer credit, microfinance, or financial services is essential.

• Demonstrated success managing multi-billion-naira loan books, risk frameworks, and capital strategies.
