Caring Blocks is Nigeria's all-access membership to a thoroughly vetted, highly trained, and professionally supported caregiving workforce. We serve modern Nigerian families with world-class nannies, postpartum specialists, chefs, chauffeurs, household managers, and eldercare professionals. Through a blend of care, convenience, and class, we match families with certified care professionals while handling hiring, contracts, HR, and ongoing support. As a Postpartum–Newborn Care Specialist, you become part of an elite team that supports families during one of the most tender and transformative phases of life: the arrival of a new baby.
Role Overview
The Postpartum–Newborn Care Specialist provides expert, compassionate, and evidence-based care to mothers and newborns during the crucial first weeks and months after birth. This role blends clinical awareness, skilled infant care, maternal support, and gentle guidance to help families transition smoothly and confidently.
You will be responsible for supporting the mother's physical and emotional recovery while ensuring the newborn's health, safety, and daily care needs are met. The ideal candidate is nurturing, knowledgeable, discreet, and able to bring calm and structure into the home.
Key Responsibilities
Maternal Support (Postpartum Care)
- Support the mother's physical and emotional recovery after childbirth (vaginal, C-section, or assisted delivery).
- Provide guidance on postpartum hygiene, nutrition, rest, and healing.
- Recognize early signs of postpartum complications and escalate appropriately.
- Offer emotional support, reassurance, and stress reduction techniques.
Newborn Care & Safety
- Provide hands-on newborn care: bathing, swaddling, soothing, skin care, and safe handling.
- Monitor and track infant feeding, sleep patterns, and diapering.
- Maintain a safe sleep environment and coach parents on safe sleep techniques.
- Identify possible concerns in the newborn (jaundice, feeding issues, abnormal behaviors).
Feeding Support
- Assist with breastfeeding: latch guidance, positioning, pumping support.
- Support formula feeding: preparation, sterilization, feeding schedules.
- Maintain feeding logs and help establish healthy feeding routines.
Parental Education & Guidance
- Educate parents on newborn cues, bonding, hygiene, burping, and developmental basics.
- Teach routines that support sleep, feeding, and recovery.
- Introduce best practices for newborn care in a modern family setting.
Light Household Support (Mother & Baby Only)
- Laundry for mother and newborn.
- Sterilizing bottles, breast pump parts, and baby items.
- Maintaining tidiness in the mother's and baby's spaces.
Overnight Care
- Provide overnight infant monitoring to allow parents restorative sleep.
- Manage feeding, soothing, and diaper changes throughout the night.
Who This Role Is Perfect For
This role is an excellent fit for individuals with a professional background in nursing, midwifery, maternal–newborn health, or clinical caregiving who want to transition into a more personalized, family-centered care environment.
It is ideal for:
- Registered Nurses (RNs) seeking a specialized, flexible, home-based care role
- Maternity Nurses / Postnatal Ward Nurses experienced in supporting mothers and newborns
- Midwives who enjoy hands-on postpartum guidance and nurturing family transitions
- Auxiliary Nurses / Community Health Workers with a strong foundation in newborn and maternal care
- NICU or Special Care Baby Unit Nurses who want to apply their skills in private homes
- Care professionals passionate about early bonding, safe newborn practices, and maternal wellbeing
Professionals with clinical experience will thrive in this role because it allows them to:
- Provide one-on-one, holistic care
- Build meaningful relationships with families
- Use their training in a supportive, non-hospital environment
- Combine medical awareness with emotional support
- Work in calm, structured home settings with the backing of Caring Blocks' Care Concierge and training systems
This role is perfect for compassionate, attentive care professionals who want to bring comfort, skill, and dignity to mothers and newborns during life's most tender moments.
