and this is where you come in.

The Role

We are looking for a 
Business Development Lead
 with strong experience in building and positioning 
tech enabled products
, especially data or research driven solutions.

Your primary focus will be to 
design, shape, and scale data products tailored to specific industries in Africa
such as financial services, FMCGs, health, education, agriculture, energy, and development.

You will work closely with the 
Chief of Business
 to translate market needs into viable, scalable data offerings that solve real problems for African organizations.

This role sits at the intersection of 
strategy, product thinking, partnerships, and revenue growth
.

Key Responsibilities

Product & Strategy

  • Identify industry specific data gaps and opportunities across African markets.
  • Design data product concepts that address clear business or policy needs.
  • Work with internal teams to refine product scope, pricing, and value propositions.
  • Translate market insights into structured, repeatable data offerings.

Business Development

  • Develop go to market strategies for new data products.
  • Build and manage partnerships with organizations, institutions, and ecosystem players.
  • Lead conversations with prospective clients to understand their needs and position WeCollect solutions effectively.
  • Support proposal development, pitches, and commercial negotiations.

Market Intelligence

  • Track trends across African tech, development, and business ecosystems.
  • Gather feedback from clients and partners to iterate on product strategy.
  • Conduct competitor and market analysis to inform positioning.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with the Chief of Business on growth priorities and execution.
  • Collaborate with product, operations, and marketing teams to ensure alignment.
  • Contribute to long term revenue and expansion planning.

What We're Looking For

  • 1 - 3 years' experience in business development, strategy, or product focused roles within tech, data, consulting, or research driven organizations.
  • Proven experience creating or scaling 
    tech-enabled products
    , preferably in African markets.
  • Strong understanding of how data is used across industries (e.g. banking, FMCG, NGOs, research, public sector).
  • Ability to think strategically and execute practically.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving, early-growth environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with data platforms, research tools, or analytics products.
  • Exposure to African development, innovation, or emerging market ecosystems.
  • Experience collaborating with cross functional teams in a startup or scale environment.
