Role Overview

LJE Nigeria is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant with a minimum of 3 years' professional experience, preferably gained within an accounting or audit firm. The ideal candidate will have a solid grounding in financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls, and will play a key role in ensuring sound financial management across the organization.

This role is suited for a professional accountant who is confident handling organizational finances, preparing accurate reports, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with statutory and donor requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers, journals, and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with accounting standards and organizational policies.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments, reconciliations, and proper documentation.
  • Oversee budgeting processes, track expenditures, and provide variance analysis against approved budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including tax filings, regulatory submissions, and financial reporting obligations.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, responding to audit queries, and implementing audit recommendations.
  • Manage payroll processing, statutory deductions, and staff expense reimbursements where applicable.
  • Monitor cash flow and provide regular financial insights to support management decision-making.
  • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and reduce financial risk.
  • Work closely with program and operations teams to ensure proper financial tracking of projects, grants, and donor-funded activities.
  • Assist in improving accounting processes, systems, and documentation for efficiency and transparency.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3 years' professional accounting experience, with prior experience working in an accounting or audit firm strongly preferred.
  • Professional accounting certification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent) is an advantage or in progress.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and supporting audits.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (or similar financial tools).
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and strong analytical skills.
  • Good understanding of internal controls and financial best practices.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and the ability to handle confidential financial information.
