ROLE SUMMARY

The Equity Research Associate is a pivotal role within our investment engine, providing critical analytical support for our Nigerian equity portfolio. You will conduct in-depth fundamental analysis on companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), with potential coverage extending to select Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) and East African counters. This role requires a unique blend of strong financial modeling skills, local market understanding, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to navigate the unique dynamics of African capital markets. Success in this role leads directly to increased responsibility and a clear path to becoming a Senior Research Analyst covering your own sector.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Build and maintain detailed three-statement financial models for 10-15 companies under coverage, primarily listed on the NGX.

· Develop valuation models using DCF, dividend discount models, and sum-of-the-parts, with appropriate adjustments for country risk premiums, inflation expectations, and FX volatility.

· Conduct thorough analysis of NAICOM (insurance), NCC (telecom), and NUPRC (oil & gas) regulatory filings where applicable.

· Analyze audited financials (in accordance with IFRS) and interim reports, with special attention to related-party transactions common in Nigerian conglomerates.

· Model impacts of Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decisions, FX policy changes, and government fiscal policies on covered companies.

· Conduct channel checks with distributors, suppliers, and customers of covered companies across key Nigerian markets.

· Attend NGX-listed company investor presentations, Annual General Meetings (AGMs), and analyst briefings.

· Build and maintain a network of industry contacts to gather ground-level intelligence.

· Monitor and analyze macroeconomic indicators from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) reports, and budget announcements.

· Research and understand the impact of FOREX availability, port congestion, power supply issues, and security concerns on company operations.

· Produce institutional-quality research reports (initiation and quarterly updates) tailored to Nigerian market standards and regulatory requirements.

· Prepare presentations for the firm's Investment Committee, highlighting key investment thesis, risks (political, regulatory, FX), and recommendations.

· Develop concise "facts sheets" for portfolio managers covering earnings surprises, guidance changes, and significant corporate actions.

· Contribute to the firm's weekly market commentary and monthly client newsletter with research insights.

· Ensure all research complies with SEC Nigeria, NGX, and CBN regulations regarding investment research and disclosure.

· Maintain the firm's proprietary database of Nigerian company information, models, and research notes.

· Support portfolio managers with ad-hoc analysis during earnings season and market volatility periods.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

. Bachelor's degree in

Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field.

. Certifications: ICAN/ACCA qualification. Progress toward the CFA charter is a significant advantage.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

. 3+ years' experience in banking, Investment banking, stockbroking house, Venture capital, or Private equity

. Experience covering Nigerian Banking, Consumer Goods, Telecoms, or Industrial sectors.

. Knowledge of statistical and analytical software

. Existing relationships with Nigerian company investor relations teams and local industry analysts.
