Core responsibilities
- Handle transactions: Operate cash registers or Point of Sale (POS) systems to scan items, calculate prices, and process payments accurately.
- Manage payments: Accept various forms of payment, including cash, credit and debit cards, checks, and mobile payments.
- Provide customer service: Greet customers warmly, answer questions about products and services, and provide recommendations.
- Process returns and exchanges: Handle customer returns or exchanges according to store policies.
- Maintain the checkout area: Keep the checkout station clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
Additional duties may include
- Balance the cash drawer: Count cash and reconcile the register at the beginning and end of each shift to ensure accuracy.
- Assist with other tasks: Help with stocking shelves, maintaining inventory, or gift-wrapping purchases when needed.
- Promote products: Suggest or cross-sell products to customers.
- Resolve complaints: Address customer complaints and provide solutions.
