The Credit Control Officer is responsible for managing the organization's credit process, ensuring timely collection of outstanding payments, reducing credit risk, and maintaining healthy cash flow. The role involves monitoring customer accounts, resolving billing issues, and ensuring compliance with company credit policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor customer accounts to identify overdue payments and follow up promptly.
  • Conduct credit checks and assess new and existing customers' creditworthiness.
  • Prepare and issue invoices, statements, and payment reminders.
  • Reconcile customer accounts to resolve payment discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate records of all credit control activities.
  • Liaise with sales, finance, and customer service teams to resolve customer billing issues.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly credit control reports (aging analysis, collections report, risk accounts).
  • Ensure compliance with company credit policies and recommend adjustments when necessary.
  • Negotiate payment plans with customers where required.
  • Escalate high-risk or problematic accounts to management for action.
  • Support audit processes by providing required documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 2–4 years experience in credit control, accounts receivable, or finance operations.
  • Strong understanding of credit management principles and debt recovery techniques.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software (SAP, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
