Job description
s & requirements The Geotechnical Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting laboratory tests on soil, rock, and construction materials to assess their engineering properties.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct laboratory testing of soil, rock, and construction materials (e.g., Atterberg limits, compaction, permeability, triaxial tests, XRF, AAS, etc.).
- Analyze soil strength, bearing capacity, and settlement characteristics.
- Ensure accurate sample preparation and maintain lab equipment.
- Maintain and calibrate lab equipment.
- Record and analyze test data for reports.
- Record and interpret test results for geotechnical engineers and project managers.
- Maintain compliance with international geotechnical testing standards (e.g., ASTM, BS, or ISO).
- Assist in on-site sampling and drilling investigations.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a geotechnical laboratory setting.
- Knowledge of soil mechanics and lab procedures.
- Familiarity with geotechnical standards and testing equipment.
- Ability to interpret geotechnical borehole logs and test results.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Implement safety protocols and maintain a clean laboratory environment.
- Certification in materials testing or quality control is an advantage.
- Knowledge of software like Microsoft suites, Geostudio, Plaxis, or Rocscience is a plus. <
