About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on and detail-oriented Finance Manager to manage the day-to-day finance operations of a growing fintech business. The role will focus primarily on financial reporting, accounting operations, tax compliance, settlement reconciliation, cash management and financial controls. The ideal candidate should have experience working in a fintech, payments, banking or other transaction-heavy environment, and understand how transaction flows translate into settlements, bank movements, accounting entries and financial reporting. This is a practical, execution-focused role. We are looking for someone who can own the finance processes, identify discrepancies, maintain strong controls and provide reliable financial information to management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting & Accounting
• Manage the monthly finance close process.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Prepare and maintain IFRS-compliant financial statements.
• Prepare and review P&L, balance sheet and cash flow reports.
• Manage accruals, prepayments, provisions and other accounting adjustments.
• Perform balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
• Investigate significant variances and unusual transactions.
• Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
• Support external and internal audits. 2. Tax & Statutory Compliance
• Manage the company's day-to-day tax compliance requirements.
• Prepare and/or coordinate: ◦ Corporate Income Tax ◦ VAT ◦ Withholding Tax (WHT) ◦ Other applicable statutory filings
• Ensure timely filing and payment of tax obligations through the relevant Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) channels.
• Maintain tax records and supporting documentation.
• Reconcile tax balances and identify discrepancies.
• Respond to tax queries and work with external tax advisers where necessary.
• Keep management informed of significant tax issues or changes affecting the business. 3. Settlement & Reconciliation (Core Responsibility)
• Perform and oversee daily settlement reconciliation.
• Reconcile transaction records against payment processor reports, bank statements and internal records.
• Monitor merchant/customer settlement balances.
• Monitor settlement inflows and outflows.
• Investigate failed, pending, reversed and duplicated transactions.
• Identify and resolve reconciliation breaks.
• Track refunds, chargebacks and transaction fees.
• Ensure settlement discrepancies are investigated and resolved promptly.
• Maintain clear reconciliation schedules and supporting documentation.
• Work with Operations, Product and payment partners to resolve transaction issues. 4. Cash & Treasury Operations
• Monitor daily cash balances and liquidity.
• Maintain visibility over balances across bank and payment accounts.
• Prepare short-term cash flow forecasts.
• Monitor expected inflows and outflows.
• Ensure sufficient funds are available for operational and settlement requirements.
• Monitor multi-currency balances.
• Track FX movements and their impact on the business.
• Support FX transactions and treasury activities in coordination with management and banking partners. Advanced FX hedging experience is not required, but candidates should understand basic FX exposure, currency movements and their impact on cash flow and profitability. 5. Financial Analysis & Business Support
• Prepare financial analysis for management decision-making.
• Monitor revenue, expenses and operating margins.
• Track transaction costs and major cost drivers.
• Support product and business teams with financial analysis.
• Assist in monitoring basic unit economics, including: ◦ Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) ◦ Customer Lifetime Value (LTV) ◦ Product margins ◦ Transaction profitability
• Support budgeting, forecasting and scenario analysis.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs. Candidates do not need to be specialists in commercial finance or advanced unit economics, but should be comfortable working with financial data and understanding basic business profitability. 6. Financial Controls
• Maintain appropriate financial controls across finance operations.
• Identify potential financial leakage, errors and control weaknesses.
• Ensure proper documentation and approval processes.
• Monitor unusual transactions and discrepancies.
• Support the development and improvement of finance processes.
• Work with Operations, Product, Risk and Compliance teams where financial controls overlap with their responsibilities. Required Qualifications & Experience Must Have
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related discipline.
• ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
• 3–6 years of relevant finance/accounting experience.
• Strong experience in financial reporting and accounting operations.
• Practical understanding of IFRS.
• Hands-on experience with bank reconciliation.
• Experience with settlement or transaction reconciliation.
• Practical knowledge of Nigerian VAT, WHT and Corporate Income Tax.
• Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills.
• Good understanding of cash flow and financial controls.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and meet reporting deadlines. Industry Experience (Strongly Preferred)

• Experience working with APIs or automated reconciliation systems. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a strong accounting/finance professional who understands transaction-based businesses. They should be able to independently manage the core finance cycle while working comfortably with Operations,Product and Management. They will be able to confidently answer questions such as:
• Are our books accurate?
• Have all transactions been properly reconciled?
• Have merchants/customers been correctly settled?
• Are there unexplained variances?
• Are our tax obligations up to date?
• How much cash do we have available?
• What payments are expected?
• Are we adequately funded for upcoming settlements?
• Where are we losing money?
• What are our major cost drivers? What Success Looks Like Within the role, the successful candidate will:
• Deliver accurate and timely monthly financial reporting.
• Maintain clean and reliable reconciliations.
• Ensure tax obligations are properly managed.
• Provide clear visibility into cash and settlement positions.
• Identify and resolve financial discrepancies quickly.
• Strengthen finance controls and processes.
