Introduction

Founded in 1956, Danish Refugee Council (DRC) operates in conflict-affected areas, displacement routes, and countries where refugees settle. The organization's mission is to ensure a dignified life for all displaced individuals. With 7,500 employees across 40 countries, DRC protects, advocates, and builds sustainable futures for refugees and displacement-affected populations. DRC is a non-profit, politically independent, non-governmental, and non-denominational relief organization.

All efforts of DRC are guided by a value compass comprising humanity, respect, independence, neutrality, participation, honesty, and transparency. Operating in eleven countries across West Africa, Central Africa, and North Africa, DRC's regional office is located in Dakar, Senegal.

About the Job

The Country Director will oversee DRC operations in Nigeria, serving as the ultimate responsible person for all DRC's initiatives in the country.

This includes:
  • Strategic planning and program management
  • HR & Administration, Finance, Supply Chain oversight
  • Safeguarding and Code of Conduct implementation
  • Access and safety management
  • Partnership management
  • Fundraising initiatives
  • Representation and external coordination

The Country Director will report to the Operations Director for the region based in Dakar. The role will involve frequent field travels and occasional visits to Dakar and Copenhagen.

Expected start date is August 2024.

Key Requirements - To be successful in this role you must have:
  • Advanced university degree in relevant fields
  • Minimum 8 years of humanitarian field experience
  • Proven ability to design and manage programs focusing on protection, emergency response, and resilience
  • Experience in insecure environments and security management
  • Track record in setting up partnerships
  • Experience with major donors
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Full professional proficiency in English
Desirable:
  • Previous work experience in West and Central Africa
