Job Description:

The Health, Safety, and Environment Specialist will play a pivotal role in ensuring the workplace remains a safe and healthy environment for employees, contractors, and visitors. This position involves developing, implementing, and enforcing health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures to prevent accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents.

The Health, Safety, and Environment Specialist will also ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement comprehensive HSE policies and procedures aligned with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to established safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Lead risk assessments and hazard analyses to pinpoint potential health, safety, and environmental risks in the workplace.
  • Implement effective control measures to mitigate identified risks and hazards.
  • Recommend improvements in safety procedures and working conditions to minimize workplace incidents.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe acts to determine root causes.
  • Prepare and submit incident reports and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain detailed records of incidents and accidents to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on HSE best practices to employees at all levels.
  • Ensure all employees understand and follow safe work practices and are aware of emergency response procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety drills, including fire drills and emergency evacuation exercises.
  • Perform regular safety inspections of equipment, machinery, and work environments to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Lead internal HSE audits and external inspections by regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor personal protective equipment (PPE) usage and ensure employee compliance with safety standards.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including waste disposal, pollution control, and resource management.
  • Promote environmentally sustainable practices across operations, aiming to reduce the company's environmental footprint.
  • Assist in preparing environmental impact assessments and reports.
  • Ensure the workplace is prepared for emergency situations, including having appropriate emergency plans in place.
  • Provide guidance and support during emergency situations, coordinating evacuation, first aid, and reporting.
  • Maintain and ensure proper functioning of emergency equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, first aid kits).
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training programs, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Submit HSE reports to management, highlighting performance, compliance, and improvement areas.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant regulations, standards, and best practices related to health, safety, and environmental management.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance HSE practices and performance.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications in Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA) are highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a Health, Safety, and Environment role, preferably in an industrial, manufacturing, or construction environment.
  • Experience in risk assessments, safety inspections, incident investigations, and HSE compliance.
  • Familiarity with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
