Job Overview:
MeritAbode Nigeria Limited seeks an experienced Legal Counsel Officer to provide expert guidance on legal matters affecting the company.

About the Role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing timely and accurate counsel to executives, collaborating with management to devise defense strategies, and specifying internal governance policies. They will also conduct research on risk factors related to business decisions and operations, apply effective risk management techniques, and communicate with external parties. Additionally, they will draft and solidify agreements, contracts, and other legal documents to ensure the company's full legal rights.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Give accurate and timely counsel to executives in various legal topics
  • Collaborate with management to devise efficient defense strategies
  • Specify internal governance policies
  • Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations
  • Apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible legal issues
  • Communicate and negotiate with external parties, creating relations of trust
  • Draft and solidify agreements, contracts, and other legal documents to ensure the company's full legal rights
  • Deal with complex matters involving multiple stakeholders and forces
  • Provide clarification on legal language or specifications to everyone in the organization
  • Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation

Requirements:
The ideal candidate should have 4-8 years of experience as a Legal/Compliance Officer, with litigation experience.
