Basic Job Information
•Job Title: Cross-border Payment Country Manager (for Nigeria)
•Reports to: CEO
•Work Location: Permanent residency in Nigeria (e.g., Lagos, Abuja)
•Core Positioning: Take full charge of the strategic implementation, market expansion and profit growth of cross-border payment business in Nigeria. Be fully accountable for business results at the national level, with a thorough grasp of Nigeria's financial regulatory landscape and market pain points.
Job Responsibilities
13.Strategic Planning & Execution: Develop medium-to-long-term strategies and annual business plans for Nigeria's cross-border payment business, clarify market positioning, profit targets and implementation paths. Lead the implementation of strategies to ensure the achievement of phased goals in response to Nigeria's economic and market changes.
14.Market & Channel Development: Develop and maintain core local cooperative channels, including Nigerian banks (Access Bank, Zenith Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank), local fintech/payment institutions (Interswitch, Flutterwave, Paystack), clearing networks and cross-border e-commerce platforms. Build a stable and diversified localized payment ecosystem that adapts to Nigeria's cash-heavy and mobile payment-oriented market characteristics.
15.Customer Development & Retention: Focus on core customer groups such as Nigerian B2B enterprises, financial institutions, cross-border traders and SMEs. Customize cross-border payment solutions that address local pain points such as foreign exchange restrictions and payment delays. Responsible for new customer signing and conversion, as well as renewal of existing customers and development of value-added services.
16.Compliance & Risk Management: Conduct in-depth analysis of Nigeria's financial regulatory policies (formulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN), data privacy regulations and tax requirements. Lead the application for local business licenses (e.g., payment service provider license) and the establishment of compliance management systems. Effectively control transaction risks, foreign exchange risks and policy compliance risks to ensure compliant business operations in Nigeria.
17.Team & Operation Management: Build and lead the local Nigerian team, formulate internal rules and regulations and efficient business processes. Optimize the customer service system and problem response mechanism to adapt to Nigeria's local business operation rhythm and improve team efficiency.
18.Business Optimization & Growth: Monitor Nigeria's cross-border payment market trends, competitor dynamics and customer needs. Drive localized product upgrades, optimize pricing strategies and clearing processes to adapt to local foreign exchange policies and market competition. Continuously enhance business scale and profitability in Nigeria.
Job Requirements
19.Educational Background: Bachelor's degree or above, majors in Finance, International Trade, Economics, Computer Science or related fields are preferred. Candidates with educational background in Nigerian universities are a plus.
20.Industry Experience: More than 5 years of working experience in cross-border payment, financial technology or international settlement. Over 3 years of experience in overseas market development or team management, with working experience in Nigeria being highly preferred. Familiarity with Nigeria's fintech industry, payment habits and market challenges is a must.
21.Professional Competence: Familiar with cross-border payment and clearing processes, mainstream international payment systems and local Nigerian payment methods (mobile money, bank transfers, e-wallets). Possess solid financial analysis and P&L management capabilities, able to formulate business strategies based on Nigeria's economic conditions and foreign exchange situation.
22.Resources & Compliance: Have core resources in Nigerian local banks, fintech companies, government regulatory authorities (Central Bank of Nigeria) and business associations. Deeply understand Nigerian business culture, market rules and compliance requirements.
23.Language & Communication Skills: Fluent English as the working language (official language of Nigeria). Proficiency in local languages (Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo) or Chinese is an additional advantage.
24.Core Competencies: Possess strategic thinking, entrepreneurial spirit and strong ability to withstand pressure. Highly self-driven, able to independently handle complex market environments and challenges in Nigeria, focus on results and efficiency, and have excellent cross-cultural communication and coordination capabilities.
