JOB OVERVIEW:

We are seeking a skilled and business-driven Accountant to join the Finance & Accounts team at National Lottery Nigeria. The accountant will play a key role in managing financial operations, ensuring compliance with statutory and gaming regulations, and supporting accurate reporting for business decision-making. The ideal candidate should possess hands-on accounting experience within the gaming, fintech, or related industry, with strong analytical skills and a track record of ensuring financial integrity in a fast-paced environment

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Accounting, Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in compliance with IFRS and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate financial records of ticket sales, winnings, commissions, and expenses.
  • Manage the general ledger, journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Maintain comprehensive financial records for internal and regulatory audits.
  • Analyze financial performance, revenue trends, and cost efficiency.
  • Prepare and file VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, and other statutory returns.
  • Identify and report financial risks, irregularities, or control weaknesses.

Revenue & Transaction Management:

  • Reconcile bank statements, agent collections, and gaming system reports.
  • Track and record daily ticket sales from agents, terminals, and online platforms.
  • Verify and reconcile agent remittances, commissions, and outstanding balances.
  • Record and verify all prize payouts and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Ensure accurate recording of gaming revenue, commissions, and tax obligations.
  • Validate system-generated reports against financial records to ensure data integrity.

Budgeting & Cost Control:

  • Assist in preparing annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Track operational & marketing expenses to ensure alignment with approved budgets.
  • Recommend cost-saving measures without compromising operational efficiency.

Process Improvement & Collaboration:

  • Contribute to process automation and financial system improvements, SOPs.
  • Collaborate with the Business Intelligence (BI) and Product teams to ensure revenue accuracy and value extraction.
  • Participate in developing financial controls to prevent fraud or data manipulation.
  • Collaborate with IT and operations teams to ensure data integrity between financial and gaming systems.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Must be a Chartered Accountant (ICAN/ACCA certified) or in advanced stage of certification.
  • 4-5 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance, preferably in gaming, fintech, telecom, or a similar transaction-heavy environment.
  • Must be resident in Abuja
    and available for a fulltime role.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, etc).
  • Good knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and IFRS.
  • Experience solving business problems with financial data - not just reporting metrics.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • High ethical standards and a proactive attitude toward accuracy and transparency.
  • Strong business acumen - ability to connect financial data points to real business impact.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills for non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
