Role Description

This is a hybrid role based in Lagos for an Editorial Researcher, Content Strategy. The Editorial Researcher will lead contributor and event research, produce a weekly culture‑intel digest, and translate insights into clear content plans. They will craft and schedule social programming, track performance to inform decisions, and partner with editors and design to ensure on‑brand execution and timely delivery.

Core responsibilities

Editorial research

  • Build contributor maps across Africa and the diaspora. Vet writing samples and niches.
  • Track cultural events, festivals, fairs, launches, and relevant moments with dates, contacts, and access notes.
  • Maintain a weekly "What's Happening" intelligence digest to feed story pitches and programming.

Social programming

  • Own monthly content calendars across Instagram and adjacent channels.
  • Draft on‑brand captions, source assets, prep story sequences, and schedule posts.
  • Monitor performance, synthesize learnings, and recommend next steps.
  • Build and maintain community across channels

Content ops

  • Keep research databases updated and tidy in Notion.
  • Prepare short briefs for contributors and internal reviews.
  • Coordinate light outreach lists for contributors, events, and partners.

Resourcing and vendor management

  • Source, vet, and onboard freelancers and partners
  • Negotiate scope, rates, timelines, and contracts; ensure deliverable quality

Research operations

  • Set interview/survey plans, book sessions, manage incentives, research across broad objectives
  • Maintain a tidy repository and synthesize insights for editorial decisions

Editorial production

  • Create briefs and production schedules for features and socials
  • Manage copy, images, and layout through review to final

QA and delivery

  • Ensure specs, rights, captions, and links are correct
  • Manage approvals and final handoff to print/digital channels

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in editorial/content operations, production, or campaign project management
  • Coachable, growth-minded, and receptive to feedback with a bias for action
  • Strong social media marketing experience across Instagram and related channels
  • Data fluent: able to read dashboards, spot patterns, and translate metrics into clear next steps
  • Demonstrated ability to stand up lightweight processes and ship consistently
  • Strong vendor and freelancer management
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and follow-through
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and context switching
  • Write clearly and concisely, with an elegant, human tone
  • Are organized and fast: you turn ambiguity into structured, usable intel
  • Tools: Notion, Google Suite, Slack, Canva, Social schedulers and analytics; bonus for Figma, Airtable, Asana

  • Demonstrate strong taste and curiosity across art, design, fashion, hospitality, and ideas
  • Familiarity with basic analytics and paid social workflows
  • Light design sense to QA assets against brand standards
