Head, Retail / SME Banking (SM–AGM)

Location: Head Office, VI, Lagos, Nigeria

Job Summary

The Head, Retail/SME Banking provides strategic leadership for the overall direction, growth, and performance of the Retail and SME segments. This role drives product innovation, customer acquisition, channel optimization, and revenue enhancement. The position ensures a sustainable loan portfolio, strengthens customer experience, and drives digital transformation within the Retail/SME business lines.

Key Responsibilities


• Formulate and execute the Retail and SME Banking strategy in alignment with the bank's vision and long-term goals.


• Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of retail and SME products, including market research, design, pricing, rollout, and performance management.


• Develop initiatives to grow deposits, loans, and fee-based income across all touchpoints.


• Strengthen credit risk management and ensure high-quality loan portfolio performance.


• Lead nationwide sales teams to drive aggressive customer acquisition and retention targets.


• Work with Digital Banking and Technology teams to enhance digital lending, onboarding, and customer experience.


• Build strategic partnerships with MSME associations, fintechs, aggregators, and other ecosystem players.


• Monitor market trends, competitor activities, regulatory changes, and customer behavior to identify new opportunities.


• Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management for regional and branch teams.


• Ensure compliance with internal policies, KYC/AML requirements, and regulatory guidelines.

Requirements


• Bachelor's degree; MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.


• 10–15 years of experience in Retail or SME Banking with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.


• Strong understanding of digital banking, credit structuring, and market dynamics.


• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
