We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated lawyer to join our legal team in a fast-growing real estate development company in Lagos, Nigeria. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in real estate law and an in-depth understanding of property transactions, regulatory compliance, land acquisition, and development processes. The lawyer will be responsible for overseeing and managing all legal matters related to the company's real estate development projects.

Job descriptions & requirementsResponsibilities:
Legal Advisory & Risk Management:
- Provide legal counsel to the company's management and development team on all aspects of real estate transactions, development projects, and land acquisition.
- Assess legal risks related to the company's real estate portfolio and mitigate potential issues.
- Advise on the compliance of real estate transactions with Nigerian laws, including the Land Use Act, Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA), and relevant environmental laws.
Contract Drafting & Negotiation:
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with contractors, architects, consultants, property sellers, and other stakeholders involved in real estate transactions.
- Ensure all legal documents, including joint venture agreements, sale/purchase agreements, lease agreements, and construction contracts, comply with Nigerian law.
Due Diligence & Property Transactions:
- Conduct thorough legal due diligence on properties, including verification of titles, land use rights, zoning regulations, and encumbrances.
- Advise on property acquisitions, sales, leases, and dispositions, ensuring clear legal titles and documentation.
Litigation & Dispute Resolution:
- Represent the company in litigation and dispute resolution proceedings, including property-related disputes, breach of contracts, and other legal conflicts.
- Manage external legal counsel when necessary and oversee the resolution of legal matters.
Regulatory Compliance & Approvals:
- Ensure the company complies with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental, zoning, land use, and building codes.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies such as the Lagos State Government, Nigerian Urban and Regional Planning Commission (NURPC), and other relevant authorities to obtain necessary approvals and permits for development projects.
Corporate Governance & Internal Policies:
- Advise the company's management on corporate governance issues, ensuring compliance with all legal obligations and ethical standards.
- Draft and implement internal policies related to real estate development, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Act as a liaison between the company and external stakeholders such as local governments, regulatory agencies, contractors, real estate brokers, and financial institutions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate smooth project execution.
Requirements:
- A Law degree (LL.B) from a recognized institution.
- Must be enrolled as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria (Barrister-at-Law).
- A minimum of 2 years of experience practicing real estate law, with specific experience in real estate development and property transactions.
- Knowledge of Nigerian property law, land use regulations, construction contracts, environmental law, and corporate governance.
- Experience in handling complex commercial contracts, due diligence, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong negotiation, drafting, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Good understanding of the Lagos State real estate market and legal landscape is highly desirable.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with property development projects, rent roll management, and lease accounting.
- Understanding of service charge reconciliations and facilities management costing.
- Familiarity with the Lagos real estate market and regulatory environment.
