Role Overview

The
Head of Risk
will design, implement, and oversee Koolboks' global risk management strategy. This role ensures the company identifies, evaluates, and mitigates financial, operational, regulatory, and strategic risks across all business lines—including manufacturing, distribution, financing, supply chain, field operations, and after-sales services.

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical capability with deep understanding of emerging-market operations, product financing, and clean-tech ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)

2. Develop and lead Koolboks' enterprise risk management framework across all regions.

3. Establish risk policies, processes, thresholds, and governance structures.
4. Create and maintain the company's risk register and regularly present risk dashboards to leadership and the Board.

2.Operational & Product Risk

• Assess risks associated with manufacturing, product reliability, supply chain, logistics, and after-sales service.
• Build systems to monitor product performance, warranty claims, and operational SLAs.
• Partner with Engineering and Operations to design mitigation strategies for technical and field-level risks.

3.Financial & Credit Risk

• Build credit-risk frameworks for customers using pay-as-you-go (PAYG) or financing models.
• Oversee portfolio performance, repayment behavior, and default-mitigation strategies.
• Work closely with Finance to stress-test business models, pricing, and working capital exposure.

4.Strategic & Market Risk

• Analyze regulatory, competitive, and macro-economic risks impacting Koolboks' expansion plans.
• Conduct scenario planning and advise leadership on risk-adjusted decision-making.

5.Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

• Ensure compliance with industry standards, data protection laws, environmental regulations, and financing compliance requirements.
• Manage internal audits and external regulatory engagements.

6.Crisis Management & Business Continuity

• Develop business continuity and crisis-response plans covering supply chain disruptions, product issues, and operational incidents.
• Lead cross-functional responses to major incidents.

7.Leadership & Collaboration

• Build and lead a high-performing risk team.
• Train company stakeholders on risk awareness and compliance.
• Foster a proactive risk culture across all departments.

Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Risk Management, Business, Engineering, or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in risk management, preferably in clean-tech, manufacturing, last-mile distribution, PAYG/financing models, or consumer-durable products.
• Proven experience building risk frameworks in a scaling organization.
• Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication skills with ability to influence senior leadership.

Preferred

• Advanced degree (MBA, MSc, or related specialization).
• Experience in emerging markets, particularly Africa.
• Knowledge of solar, cold-chain logistics, or energy-access solutions.
• Familiarity with ISO standards, internal auditing, and enterprise risk software/tools.
