Role Overview

The
Senior Community Manager
is responsible for building, nurturing, and scaling the TEDxMaitama community across online and offline channels. This role sits at the heart of our ecosystem—connecting speakers, volunteers, partners, alumni, attendees, and digital audiences into a thriving, engaged, and value-driven community.

You will design community strategies, lead engagement initiatives, and ensure every interaction with TEDxMaitama feels intentional, inclusive, and inspiring.

Key Responsibilities

Community Strategy & Growth

  • Develop and execute a community-building strategy aligned with TEDxMaitama's vision and annual themes
  • Grow and manage TEDxMaitama's online communities (WhatsApp, Telegram, LinkedIn, X, Instagram, etc.)
  • Build strong relationships with speakers, alumni, partners, volunteers, and attendees
  • Design onboarding journeys for new community members

Engagement & Programming

  • Plan and manage community activations such as salons, meetups, webinars, and watch parties
  • Lead engagement campaigns before, during, and after TEDxMaitama events
  • Create feedback loops to understand community needs, sentiment, and ideas
  • Work closely with content and marketing teams to turn community insights into stories

Leadership & Coordination

  • Supervise and mentor community volunteers and ambassadors
  • Coordinate with operations, partnerships, and communications teams
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for community-related inquiries
  • Represent TEDxMaitama in ecosystem and partner engagements

Measurement & Reporting

  • Track community growth, engagement metrics, and retention
  • Prepare reports and insights to guide strategy and decision-making
  • Continuously test and improve engagement formats and platforms

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in community management, engagement, or ecosystem building
  • Proven experience building and managing both online and offline communities
  • Strong communication, storytelling, and people-management skills
  • Experience working with volunteers, creatives, or mission-driven organizations
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities
  • Passion for ideas, innovation, and social impact

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with TEDx, nonprofits, media platforms, or cultural communities
  • Familiarity with social media analytics and community tools
  • Strong understanding of the African innovation or creative ecosystem
  • Event planning or program management experience
