What we are looking for

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is seeking a highly qualified, resilient, and dynamic professional to take up the role of Deputy Director INGO Forum for Zamfara, Nigeria. The purpose of the role is to support the forum and its members that offer humanitarian and development aid, and peacebuilding, in North West Nigeria by facilitating information exchange, coordination, and advocacy. They will bridge the coordination between Abuja and northwest response to ensure accurate representation and effective decision making. Depending on the needs of the forum, the Deputy Director may be requested to support the forum and its members in Abuja and other locations.  

What you will do
  • Proactive agenda setting; facilitating a space for INGO-INGO collaboration; enabling sharing of information and analysis for effective decision-making.

  • High level representation of INGO interests in external meetings and planning efforts regionally; and strategically guide and support common advocacy and policy engagement. 

  • Manages the Admin & Liaison Technical Officer ensuring that their activities support the overall objectives of NIF in the North West

  • Depending on office arrangements with host INGOs, the DD may be required to provide strategic and day-to-day management of the northwest office (personnel, budget, security, etc.)

  • Ensures compliance with host agency procedures for the operation of NIF's northwest office

  • Supports the Director in budgeting, budget management and accountability

  • Facilitate INGO coordination in North West states, identifying gaps, duplication, and opportunities for enhanced coordination.

What you will bring

  • Advanced degree in relevant field or undergraduate degree with significant field experience.

  • 5-7 years of experience in humanitarian /development aid, preferably within complex emergencies and/or access-constrained/insecure areas.

  • Demonstratable knowledge of key thematic areas including access, humanitarian principles, community participation

  • Proven ability to build relationships and facilitate dialogue among diverse stakeholders.

  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken with strong writing and editing skills

  • Excellent writing, editing, and analytical abilities.

  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced environments.

  • Ability to present and represent collective views to various stakeholders.

  • Prior experience with INGO consortia/forums is desirable.

  • Experience influencing policy change and practice is desirable.

  • Knowledge of the Nigeria context or previous experience working in Nigeria or West Africa

  • Experience in administration and coordination of coalition or secretariat functions a plus.

  • Strong communication, inter-personal, facilitation and diplomatic skills.

  • Knowledge of Hausa is an added value.

The Nigeria INGO Forum (NIF) was established in 2014 to facilitate collaboration among international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) in Nigeria for humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding efforts. It serves as a vital platform for information sharing, advocacy, and engagement with authorities, donors, and the UN, ensuring the inclusion of INGO perspectives and those of affected populations in decision-making. Governed by a core membership of 53 members and nine observers, it operates under a Steering Committee comprised of five Country Directors and a Chair, supported by a Secretariat.
