Job Summary

The Internal Auditor will support the Head of Internal Audit in planning and executing internal audit assignments across the organization. The role involves evaluating internal controls, risk management processes, and governance practices to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry best practices. The successful candidate will contribute to strengthening operational efficiency, safeguarding assets, and enhancing overall corporate governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and implementing the annual internal audit plan in line with the company's risk profile.
  • Execute internal audit assignments covering financial, operational, compliance, and IT processes.
  • Review and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and risk management systems.
  • Perform audit testing, documentation, and working papers in line with professional standards.
  • Identify control weaknesses, process gaps, and improvement opportunities, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Prepare draft audit reports and present findings to the Head of Internal Audit.
  • Follow up on audit recommendations to ensure timely implementation by management.
  • Support investigations into suspected fraud, misconduct, or control breaches when required.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations (e.g., SEC, CBN, NSE), and internal policies.
  • Participate in special reviews and ad hoc audit assignments as directed.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulators as needed.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of audit methodologies and tools.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, or a related field.
  • 3–6 years' relevant experience in internal audit, risk, compliance, or external audit within financial services, asset management, or investment firms.
  • Professional certification (ACA, ACCA, CISA, CIA, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of internal audit standards (IIA), financial reporting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Good understanding of investment operations, securities trading, and portfolio management processes.
  • Experience in auditing financial services processes such as treasury, fund management, brokerage, and risk management is a plus.
