The Managing Editor, FMCG will oversee all editorial activities related to the FMCG publication, ensuring content quality, relevance, and alignment with Businessfront’s mission. You will hire and lead a team of writers and contributors, shape the content calendar, and drive traffic and engagement among professionals and decision-makers in the FMCG space.


You will perform the following responsibilities;
  • Develop and execute a compelling editorial strategy focused on the FMCG industry in Africa.

  • Lead and manage a team of staff writers, freelancers, and contributors.

  • Assign, edit, and publish high-quality news articles, features, data stories, and interviews.

  • Stay on top of trends, policies, innovations, and business activities in the FMCG sector.

  • Ensure all content meets our editorial standards and aligns with audience needs.

  • Collaborate with the SEO, design, and product teams to optimize content performance.

  • Grow and engage a community of FMCG professionals through newsletters, webinars, and other formats.

  • Track and report on editorial performance metrics, using data to inform decisions.

  • Represent the publication at industry events, conferences, and panel discussions.



Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in journalism, content strategy, or publishing, with at least 2 years in an editorial leadership role.

  • Deep understanding of the FMCG industry in Africa or a strong willingness to become an expert quickly.

  • Proven track record of producing and editing high-quality, insightful business content.

  • Experience managing editorial teams and workflows.

  • Strong news judgment, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.

  • Comfortable using CMS tools, analytics platforms, and collaboration tools (e.g., WordPress, Google Analytics, Zoho, etc.).

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build a new editorial vertical from the ground up.
