SITE SAFETY OFFICER Job Title: Site Safety Officer Employment Type: Full-Time Reports To: Site Manager / Project Manager Job Summary We are seeking a vigilant and experienced Site Safety Officer to oversee health, safety, and environmental compliance at our site. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and mitigating workplace hazards, enforcing safety procedures, conducting safety training, and ensuring that employees and contractors comply with applicable safety standards. The role requires a hands-on individual who can maintain a strong safety culture and promptly address unsafe conditions, particularly during high-risk site activities.

Key Responsibilities
1. Site Inspection & Risk Management
- Conduct daily site inspections and walkthroughs to identify unsafe acts, conditions, and potential hazards.
- Identify, assess, and recommend appropriate control measures for workplace risks.
- Ensure heavy machinery, scaffolding, ladders, tools, and other equipment are properly maintained and meet safety standards.
- Monitor high-risk activities, including working at heights, excavation, lifting operations, and confined-space entry.
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly following identified safety concerns. 2. Safety Policy Enforcement & Training
- Enforce company, statutory, and government health and safety policies across employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Conduct daily morning toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Provide safety orientation and induction for new employees, contractors, and site visitors.
- Determine the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for different site activities and ensure proper usage.
- Promote safety awareness and encourage compliance with established site safety procedures. 3. Incident Investigation & Documentation
- Respond promptly to workplace accidents, injuries, near-misses, and other safety incidents.
- Investigate incidents to identify root causes and recommend preventive measures.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, toolbox talks, training sessions, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Prepare regular safety reports for site management.
- Ensure relevant incidents are reported to appropriate regulatory authorities where required. 4. Site Safety, Security & Housekeeping
- Enforce strict safety procedures for the handling, storage, and use of hazardous, volatile, or sensitive materials.
- Ensure storage areas, workspaces, walkways, and other site areas remain clean, organized, and free from hazards.
- Monitor compliance with proper material storage and handling procedures.
- Restrict unauthorized access to designated storage and high-risk areas.
- Ensure appropriate warning signs, barricades, and safety notices are clearly displayed where required.
- Monitor emergency preparedness, including access to emergency exits, fire equipment, and first-aid facilities. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, HND, or OND in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- Relevant professional certification in Health & Safety is an added advantage.
- 2–5 years of experience in a site safety, construction, engineering, manufacturing, telecoms, or similar high-risk environment.
- Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Experience conducting site inspections, risk assessments, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
- Ability to identify hazards and take immediate corrective action.
- Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with site workers, contractors, supervisors, and management.
- Must be proactive, observant, firm, and safety-conscious. Key Competencies
