Job Summary

The External Communications Officer will play a key role in shaping and amplifying the Foundation's voice across multiple platforms. This position focuses on enhancing the Foundation's public image through compelling storytelling, strategic media relations, and impactful communication initiatives. The ideal candidate is a creative communicator with journalistic flair and deep insight into development and advocacy work—someone who can translate the Foundation's mission and field impact into powerful narratives that inspire public trust and engagement.

*Key Responsibilities:*

Media Relations & Public Engagement

* Build and sustain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, and communication partners.

* Coordinate and manage press activities during events, campaigns, and official announcements.

* Represent the Foundation in media engagements to promote its mission and initiatives.

* Monitor and analyze media coverage, providing reports and actionable insights.

Content Development & Storytelling

* Write, edit, and produce high-quality press releases, feature stories, articles, and event reports.

* Create engaging human-interest stories that showcase the Foundation's impact and advocacy work.

* Ensure all external communication materials reflect the Foundation's tone, values, and strategic objectives.

* Collaborate with program teams to transform field activities into compelling media content.

Strategic Communication & Advisory

* Provide expert advice on media positioning and public messaging to enhance visibility and credibility.

* Contribute to the planning and execution of communication campaigns and advocacy initiatives.

* Maintain consistency and alignment in messaging across all communication channels.

Review & Monitoring

* Review outgoing communication materials for accuracy, tone, and clarity.

* Track and evaluate media mentions, preparing concise coverage reports.

* Maintain an updated database of media contacts, journalists, and communication allies.

Qualifications & Experience:

* Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.

* 3–5 years of relevant experience in communications, preferably in non-profit, development, or advocacy sectors.

* Demonstrated experience in writing, editing, and publishing communication materials for diverse audiences.

* Proven ability to manage media relations and develop strategic communication initiatives for social impact.

* Excellent storytelling, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

* Proficiency in digital communication tools, media monitoring platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
