Position:

Assistant Controller

Location:

Nigeria

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with IFRS.
  • Prepare budget variance reports.
  • Assist with general ledger postings, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of accounts payable, receivable, and expense entries.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and provide variance analysis against budgets.

Grant & Project Finance

  • Track and monitor financial performance of donor-funded and grant-supported projects.
  • Prepare grant-specific budgets, forecasts, and financial reports in line with donor requirements.
  • Ensure proper allocation of costs, time tracking, and reporting for project activities.
  • Liaise with project managers to align financial reporting with program deliverables.

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws (CIT, VAT, PAYE, WHT), CAMA, and other regulatory filings.
  • Support internal and external audit processes.
  • Strengthen internal controls across revenue recognition, expense management, and asset protection.
  • Support development and review of accounting policies and procedures.

Business Support & Analysis

  • Provide financial insights to business unit leaders (content, distribution, advertising, events).
  • Assist with budget preparation, monitoring, and re-forecasting.
  • Develop publication-level reports to track revenue streams.
  • Conduct profitability analysis on projects, campaigns, and partnerships.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Help implement and optimize accounting/ERP software for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Drive process improvements in transaction recording, reporting, and reconciliations.
  • Support digital transformation of finance processes in line with a modern media business.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • B.Sc. in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • ICAN/ACA/ACCA/CPA qualification.
  • 4–6 years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS; knowledge of Nigerian tax regulations is a plus.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, SAP).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and Excel skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, creative, and entrepreneurial environment.
