Background of the Project

The North West states of Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto (KZS) states are entrenched in a complex crisis marked by pervasive insecurity, deep-seated socio-economic challenges, and a rapidly deteriorating social fabric. This environment, characterized

by high youth unemployment, significant skills gaps, and the erosion of community trust, has left a generation vulnerable to recruitment by criminal and extremist groups. Compounding this, negative media narratives have fueled a damaging social divide and a sense of alienation within the region. In response, "The Hustle" proposes an innovative intervention that leverages Nigeria's dynamic youth population and the influential power of its media landscape. This reality TV show is designed as a 24- month initiative to reinforce peace and social cohesion by providing youth with concrete alternatives to violent extremism. The programme will create a platform for young entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds in KZS to collaborate, develop business skills, and pitch innovative ideas, thereby fostering economic empowerment, rebuilding the social fabric, and shifting harmful national narratives. By combining the proven appeal of reality television with conflict-sensitive methodologies, "The Hustle" aims to catalyse a tangible shift towards peace and prosperity in North West Nigeria.

With the goal of reinforcing peace and social cohesion in North West Nigeria, the reality TV show has the specific objective of ensuring that Youths Develop Activities and Alternatives to Violent Extremism. Below are the expected outputs for the show and these outputs should reflect in the teaser and promotional materials:

● Output 1.1: A reality show demonstrating the capacities of young people to develop and lead their own socio-economic initiatives in their communities in KZS states is implemented.

● Output 1.2: The public is sensitised to the positive leadership of young people in peacebuilding and their social and economic contribution to their community.

● Output 1.3: Young people from the Northern region benefit from network support to develop their own activities.
