Job Description

  • The Career Development Specialist provides guidance and support to individuals in planning and achieving their career goals.
  • This role involves working closely with clients or employees to assess their skills, interests, and experiences, and helping them to create actionable plans for career growth.
  • The specialist is also responsible for connecting individuals with job opportunities, resources, and training programs.

Key Responsibilities:
Career Counseling & Planning:

  • Conduct one-on-one career counseling sessions to help individuals identify their career goals, strengths, and areas for improvement.
  • Assist clients or employees in developing career plans, including setting short-term and long-term goals, identifying skill gaps, and creating actionable steps for career advancement.
  • Administer and interpret career assessments to help individuals understand their interests, values, and personality traits related to career choices.

Job Search Assistance:

  • Provide guidance on resume writing, cover letter preparation, and interview techniques to improve job search success.
  • Assist individuals in navigating job search platforms, networking opportunities, and employment resources.
  • Offer support in negotiating job offers, understanding employment contracts, and transitioning to new roles.

Career Development Programs:

  • Develop and facilitate workshops and seminars on topics such as job search strategies, career advancement, and professional development.
  • Create and implement career development programs that align with the needs of the organization or client base.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, labor market data, and skill demands to provide relevant career advice and program offerings.

Employer Relations & Job Placement:

  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers, industry professionals, and alumni networks to create job placement opportunities for clients or employees.
  • Collaborate with recruiters, hiring managers, and community organizations to match individuals with job openings that fit their skills and goals.
  • Organize job fairs, networking events, and on-campus or corporate recruitment events.

Skills & Competency Development:

  • Identify training and development opportunities for individuals to enhance their skills and marketability.
  • Work with educational and training providers to connect clients with relevant certification programs, courses, and workshops.
  • Provide continuous support to clients as they develop new skills and progress in their careers.

Record Keeping & Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of client interactions, career plans, and outcomes using career management software or databases.
  • Prepare reports on the effectiveness of career development programs, job placement rates, and client satisfaction.
  • Ensure that all activities are in compliance with relevant regulations and organizational policies.

Skills & Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Career Counseling, Human Resources, Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Master's degree or certification in career development e.g., Certified Career Services Provider, Global Career Development Facilitator is preferred.

Experience:

  • 2-4 years of experience in career counseling, workforce development, or human resources.
  • Experience working in educational settings, corporate training, or employment services is a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong counseling and coaching skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire individuals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with clients, employers, and community partners.
  • Knowledge of career assessments, labor market trends, and job search strategies.
  • Proficiency in using career management software, job boards, and CRM systems.
  • Ability to design and deliver effective training programs and workshops.
