Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Protection Specialist to join our team in Maiduguri, Nigeria. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring quality assurance and promoting the creation of a protective environment for children.

About the Role

The Child Protection Specialist will provide technical guidance and leadership in strengthening community-based reintegration of children and women exiting armed groups. The role also involves coordinating with other programs to ensure synergies and linkages between reintegration activities and other sectors.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide support to the implementation of a community-based reintegration program
  • Provide technical guidance and operational support to government counterparts, NGO partners, and UN system partners on strengthening community-based structures that support vocational and skills training for children released from armed groups
  • Strengthen coordination and networking with other programs to ensure synergies and linkages between reintegration activities and other sectors
  • Provide oversight of the handover protocol and other instruments for the release of children formerly associated with armed groups and those in detention
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • An advanced university degree in conflict management, international law/human rights law, or a related field
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience with the UN and/or NGOs, with significant experience in child protection
  • Strong communication skills - both oral and written in English
  • Working knowledge of the local languages is an asset
