UNICEF's Mission to Protect Children

As a global organization, UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to save children's lives, defend their rights, and help them reach their full potential from early childhood through adolescence. With a commitment to quality assurance, our team promotes the creation of protective environments for children, preventing child recruitment by armed groups, and addressing other grave violations against children and women.

The Child Protection Specialist will play a crucial role in this mission, working under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Program Manager and under the overall guidance of the Chief Child Protection. This position requires a strong background in conflict management, international law/human rights law, or a related field, with at least five years of experience with the UN and/or NGOs in child protection.

Main Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support to the government, partners, and stakeholders on community-based reintegration programs, strengthening legislative and institutional frameworks to protect vulnerable children, and conducting regular monitoring visits to track progress and assess impact.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Provide technical guidance and operational support to government counterparts, NGO partners, and UN system partners on the implementation of community-based reintegration programs.
  • Strengthen collaboration with other programs to ensure synergies and linkages between reintegration activities and other sectors.
  • Build and sustain effective close working partnerships with relevant government counterparts, state-level stakeholders, and other partners to achieve sustainable results in child protection.

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you must have a minimum of five years of experience with the UN and/or NGOs, with a significant portion in child protection. A bachelor's degree in Social Work, development studies, or a related field is required, along with strong communication skills, both oral and written in English. Familiarity with national and international Child Rights legislation, frameworks, and standards relating to Nigeria is essential.

Benefits:

As a member of the UNICEF team, you will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth and development. Our inclusive work environment values diversity and promotes equal opportunities for all employees.
