Role of a Technical Assistant to the Managing Director (MD)

Overview

The Technical Assistant (TA) serves as the MD's right-hand person providing technical and strategic support across all aspects of the company's operations.

In a real estate and construction setting, the TA acts as a bridge between the MD's office and the project teams, ensuring that the MD's decisions are executed efficiently, deadlines are met, and the company's projects and business objectives run smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project and Technical Coordination

  • Support the MD in supervising real estate development and construction projects.
  • Review project drawings, BOQs, progress reports, and technical documents before submission to the MD.
  • Track project timelines, budgets, and deliverables; flag issues early.
  • Conduct site visits and prepare progress summaries for the MD.
  • Coordinate communication between the MD and contractors.

2. Strategic and Business Support

  • Assist in preparing feasibility studies, investment proposals, and business cases.
  • Conduct technical and market research to support new developments or partnerships.
  • Contribute to project planning, resource allocation, and strategy reviews.
  • Follow up on key decisions and ensure that the MD's directives are plemented.

3. Administrative and Executive Support

  • Manage the MD's schedule, meetings, and correspondence with clients and partners.
  • Prepare reports, briefs, and presentation materials for management and investors.
  • Attend meetings (internal and external) with or on behalf of the MD.
  • Maintain organized documentation and project archives.

4. Quality Control and Compliance

  • Ensure all ongoing projects adhere to design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the preparation of tender documents and contract reviews.
  • Monitor contractors' performance and escalate non-compliance or quality issues.

5. Communication and Reporting

  • Prepare concise project updates, financial summaries, and status reports for the MD.
  • Serve as a first point of contact for internal teams needing the MD's input.
  • Draft correspondence and ensure timely responses on behalf of the MD.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Building Technology, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in construction, real estate development, or consulting.
  • Strong project management, documentation, and technical reporting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
  • Good understanding of Nigerian real estate and construction processes, including approvals and regulatory compliance.
