LOCATION: All Stations, UPC & FLB
DEPARTMENT: Maintenance
SECTION / UNIT: Instrument
DIRECTLY REPORTS TO: Maintenance Team Leader
DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: Instrument technicians

Job Summary / Objective of Job

  • Oversee instrument schedules, job orders and evaluate instrument work performance. Reading and interpreting design schematics to ensure the proper installation and maintenance of instrument system.
  • Assist Commissioning and Start-up effort as requested, for new equipment.
  • Creation and modification process for plant procedures relating to Instrumentation and Controls equipment and programming of plant systems.
  • Perform support in the investigation of plant upsets and incidents involving the plant instrumentation and controls system.
  • Monitor work of contractors during outages and special projects to assess productivity and ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Function as part of plant emergency response team.
  • Responsible for training and development of Supervisors and technicians.

Qualifications and Skills

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Instrumentation, Electrical, Control Systems, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Technical/vocational training in instrumentation and control systems.
  • Permit-to-Work (PTW) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) authorization.
  • Vendor-specific training (Honeywell, Emerson, Yokogawa, ABB, Siemens, etc.).

Experience:

  • 5 – 7 years of oil & gas instrumentation and control maintenance experience.
  • At least 2–5 years in a supervisory or leadership position.
  • Strong background in commissioning, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of instrumentation systems.
  • Experienced in mentoring or leading junior technicians.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of field instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level transmitters).
  • Control systems expertise: DCS, ESD, F&G, SCADA, and PLC-based systems.
  • Calibration, loop checking, and functional testing of instruments.
  • Maintenance of analysers, metering skids, and custody transfer systems.
  • Knowledge of smart instrumentation and fieldbus communication (HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus).
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and troubleshooting of instrument failures.
  • Familiarity with international standards (IEC, ISA, API).
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, cause & effect charts, and control logic.

Safety & Compliance Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and oil & gas safety standards.
  • Skilled in Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and isolation procedures.
  • Experience with hazardous area instrumentation (Ex-rated equipment).
  • Hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident investigation.
  • Leading toolbox talks, safety briefings, and emergency drills.

Leadership & Soft Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead and supervise multi-discipline instrument teams.
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and coordination of maintenance activities.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and developing junior technicians and engineers.
  • Effective communication with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
  • Decision-making under pressure in critical plant situations.
  • Problem-solving and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Adaptability to shift work, and multicultural teams.
