Job Title

Local Trade Development Executive

The Local Trade Development Executive ensures that the company's products are available, visible, correctly priced, and selling well across key markets in Nigeria. The role focuses on building and managing distributors, strengthening retail presence, and ensuring smooth product movement across regions.

Key Responsibilities

Distribution and Market Coverage

  • Build and manage distributors and wholesalers in assigned regions.
  • Expand product reach across general trade, modern trade, and open markets.
  • Monitor stock levels and work with internal teams to maintain healthy supply across states.
  • Support distributors with clear targets, plans, and follow up actions.

Retail Execution

  • Ensure products are well displayed, in stock, and correctly priced in key outlets.
  • Deploy and track visibility materials such as banners, shelf strips, and branded racks.
  • Conduct regular market visits to assess performance and identify gaps.
  • Support trade activities such as market activations and seasonal campaigns.

Distributor and Partner Management

  • Track distributor performance including sell in, sell out, stock age, and out of stock issues.
  • Implement trade incentives and manage performance reviews.
  • Train distributor sales teams on product knowledge and basic merchandising standards.

Compliance and Documentation

  • Ensure proper documentation for interstate movement of goods including waybills and tax receipts.
  • Maintain accurate files on distributor agreements, pricing approvals, and claims.

Reporting and Market Insights

  • Provide weekly reports on distribution, availability, and market activities.
  • Track competitor prices, promotions, and market trends.
  • Highlight and escalate operational concerns such as security or supply challenges.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Distribution growth across regions
  • Availability of priority products in key outlets
  • Quality and number of market visits
  • Sell out growth in focus areas
  • Visibility compliance and activation results
  • Timely and accurate reporting

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Economics, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years' experience in sales, trade marketing, or distribution roles within FMCG, Consumer Electronics, Pharma OTC, Agribusiness, with proven distribution building across multiple Nigerian states.
  • Track Record: Evidence of scaling distribution, turning around underperforming territories, and hitting sell-out targets.
  • Experience managing distributors across multiple regions in Nigeria.
  • Must reside in Lagos or be willing to relocate.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of distribution and route to market models.
  • Good negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Comfortable working in the field and managing multiple regions.
  • Strong analytical ability with working knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements for interstate product movement.

Work Conditions

  • Frequent travel within Nigeria.
