Role Overview:
The Plumber / Pipefitter is responsible for the installation, assembly, maintenance, and repair of piping systems that transport water, gas, steam, and waste across residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
This role requires high technical proficiency in reading blueprints, measuring, cutting, threading, and joining pipes, as well as troubleshooting leaks and flow issues to ensure optimal performance and compliance with building codes and safety standards.
The ideal candidate has solid hands-on experience with both PVC and metal piping systems, is safety-focused, and demonstrates a high level of precision in all plumbing and piping works.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, assemble, and maintain piping systems for water supply, drainage, gas, and heating applications.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to determine pipe layout and requirements.
- Measure, cut, thread, bend, and join pipes using hand tools, power tools, or welding equipment.
- Install fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers, valves, and control systems.
- Conduct pressure tests and leak detection to verify system integrity.
- Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on plumbing and piping systems.
- Install and align pumps, valves, and associated mechanical components.
- Inspect existing systems to identify defects, corrosion, or potential hazards.
- Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other trades to coordinate work sequences and ensure system compatibility.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant codes (e.g., National Plumbing Code, ASME standards) and site safety procedures.
- Maintain detailed records of materials used, maintenance activities, and repair history.
- Participate in safety briefings and enforce PPE compliance at all times.
Requirements:
- Trade Test Certificate (Grade I, II, or III) in Plumbing, Pipefitting, or Mechanical Fitting.
- Technical Diploma or NABTEB / City & Guilds certification in Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years' practical experience in construction, industrial, or facility projects.
- Strong knowledge of piping systems (PVC, copper, galvanized steel, PPR, HDPE).
- Proficiency in pipe installation, threading, brazing, and jointing techniques.
- Ability to interpret and execute drawings, schematics, and isometric diagrams.
- Experience with pressure testing, pipe support installation, and fluid system balancing.
- Familiarity with water pumps, sanitary fixtures, and drainage systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Safety-conscious, disciplined, and able to work in confined spaces or elevated positions.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
- Physical fitness and endurance suitable for field work.
